last weekend we took a quick trip up to utah for our annual york reunion {hosted this year by julie} and had a great time. we drove all day on friday and stayed in provo. we met up with everyone else for lunch on saturday in santaquin and then toured the elementary school that ted attended, which has been turned into a museum. it was really neat to see (and touch!) his military uniform on display there. grandma waters had also donated several items and it was fun to find them throughout. we visited the cemetery in santaquin where several of john's ancestors are buried.
we stopped at the family tree restaurant for dinner and boy, was it good! we sat with penny & ryan and it was nice to chat and catch up. then it was on to the ute stampede rodeo in nephi! this was the first rodeo for our kids.... and THEY LOVED IT!! they've requested we find some down here in arizona to go to. i've thought about maybe heading to vegas for a big one!
we did witness a tragedy there, while john & kerianne had stepped out for snacks & drinks. it was the girl's barrel racing and the first gal came out and right at the first barrel her horse broke it's leg. it was horrible. that poor thing. we were in such shock that i didn't think to grab my camera quick enough, and then decided it wasn't something i really wanted a picture of. the cowgirl was sobbing. the speaker guy was trying to explain that they had great doctors and vets there that would provide the best medical attention, but we all knew what the outcome would be. kennedi was certainly upset and all we could do is just stand there watching that poor thing suffer. i guess there was a divot in the dirt near that barrel that didn't get raked over. they came out and re-raked that whole area after that!
we had a great time with the yorks! rob's family wasn't there, as he and his kids were on the trek journey, along with sara. we missed all of them. we are excited for next year!!!
