Well, we've experienced some excitement as well as disappointments. Right off the bat John had a lead with a firm back in Orlando, Florida. We were so excited! We were ready to pack up and move and buy our annual passes to Disneyworld! But as it turned out, the company decided to wait a bit and we knew we wouldn't be able to wait that long for them.
Then, John had a couple interviews with Safeway for a position in North Phoenix! We were really excited, because that meant we wouldn't have to move and uproot our kids from school and leave our new home. His commute would be long, but that was going to be ok. This job looked really promising, until we found out they decided to promote from within the company. Back to square one... again.
Then another call from a headhunter: they have a position with Wendy's Corporate back in Dublin, Ohio! This one felt right. I was especially excited as this is where Lori served her mission (Columbus, OH). They interviewed him and then flew him back to Ohio for more interviews. They're rolling out their new restaurant design and he was really excited to be a part of that. He heard from the headhunter that they were so impressed and were drafting up an offer! They were going to send him the offer on a Thursday, and we were worried when we didn't hear anything that day. Then a call the following day that they had a local guy apply and they wanted to interview him on Monday. In the end, they decided to go with the local guy. (It's pretty expensive to relocate a family of six across the country so we wonder if that was a factor.) Again... back to square one.
John was talking with his friend Richard, whom he worked with at Fresh & Easy. Richard had been offered a position at Big 5 Sporting Goods but was taking his old job with Vons instead. He had given them John's name and quickly the calls started coming in. They phone interviewed and then flew him to California. And shall we say... the rest is history!! He was offered the position of Construction Manager for Big 5. He will begin the day after Mother's Day, which means he moves out on Mother' Day and I will be so sad. He will live in a hotel until we can sell our home and find something over there. It will be my job to get the rest of the house packed (as we've packed a lot of it already) and get it sold. It's his job to work as hard as he can and learn as much as he can, and then find us a rental in his spare time!
What a roller coaster ride... that we never want to take again EVER! California... here we come =)
